Pregnancy: Week 8

We are following along to the Canine Pregnancy Calendar for Csilla's litter, and August 27th marked the beginning of Week 8.  Some of the expectations this week would be:
  • The dam might lose her appetite during this period as her abdomen may be crowded with puppies.
  • It is better to feed several smaller meals spaced throughout the day.
  • You can easily detect abdominal movement now.
In her usual fashion, Csilla is ravenous so missing a meal is not going to happen.  Here she is below begging for ice cream (yes, she was given some vanilla ice cream from my spoon):

Csilla gets her normal two meals a day of Nature's Variety Raw Boost, or their Raw Frozen Patties), with an added spoonful of:  cottage cheese, organic canned dog food, or healthy table scraps (veggies or meat/fish).  Nature's Variety Raw Boost kibble has one of the highest calorie content per cup at 495 kcal/cup, which his excellent for pregnant mothers.  However, my other Vizslas love this grain free food as well (and also Orijen Adult).

At the moment I am not able to see any abdominal movement, but the Daily Doppler is picking up healthy heartbeats for the unborn pups.
